Passionate about helping clients make smart financial decisions that have a lasting impact

My Role

As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and lead advisor, I work with clients to chart their financial futures and grow their assets, with planning that frequently crosses generations. I use a holistic approach encompassing investments and estate and tax planning to develop and implement customized solutions.

My Story

I took a circuitous path to my current role. After graduating from college, I headed to Russia and Germany, where I spent more than a decade working as a writer and editor for several European business publications. Over time I took on new roles, launching my publisher’s electronic media business and leading two new business publications. After ten years in Germany, I decided to return home to the United States, moving to Portland with my cat and a container full of furniture.

Not long thereafter, my personal interest in investing, markets, and financial planning led me to make a career change. In early 2009 as markets were falling precipitously, I joined the Portland office of AXA Advisors. After passing the CFP in 2012, I was promoted to Vice President, where I was responsible for training and managing about a dozen advisors. Despite my success at AXA, I became disillusioned with the broker-dealer business model. In January 2019, I joined Avier to lead our activities in Oregon and SW Washington.

Since 2017 I have served as president of the board of the non-profit organization Birch Community Services (BCS). Every year, BCS distributes over 12 million pounds of surplus food, clothing, and household items donated by hundreds of local businesses to over 1,000 financially struggling families. In combination with helping families meet their basic needs, BCS provides financial education and counseling to create sustainable families.

I live in Stafford, Oregon—a rural pocket between suburban West Linn and Lake Oswego—with my wife, Katy, and our two boys, Max and Will, along with a bunch of animals – a black lab and an orange tabby as well as a chickens, horses, and rabbits. When the weather in Oregon turns cold and rainy, we love spending time on the slopes of Mt. Hood.
